My Story
For a long time, I attempted to follow a traditional path: work your tail off, limit your doodles to your page margins, and keep your mouth shut. But in 2021, I decided I had enough of the rat race, and made the scary move to dedicate myself to art as a means of occupation, healing, exploration, and education. Since then, I’ve shared and sold countless original artworks and accessories, encouraging me to continue my journey of independent artistry!
Why pochisma? Why now?
The term “pocha” isn’t typically a compliment. It refers to a level of inadequacy—maybe your Spanish sucks, maybe you dance kind of stiff, maybe you don’t put effort into the traditions. In spite of the shade I’ve reclaimed the word for myself and even crowned myself THEE POCHA. I’ve released the shame of my awkward cultural identity, and instead leaned into free exploration: outside the constructs of my assigned words, labels, and experiences. And it’s often outside of these boxes that we can find the sweetest parts of ourselves.
